*the bridge at Houghton-Hancock, Michigan
*the Duluth Lift Bridge as we entered
*some of the many around to greet us. That is Mary taking the picture in the middle. She was very happy to finally see her boat.

Thanks.

Home at last

Well at 1045 today we crossed under the Duluth Lift Bridge. We left Sault Sainte Marie on Thursday Morning in some rough seas on Whitefish Bay. The seas flattened out and we arrived in Marquette, MI at 1920 on Thursday. Friday we headed off for Ontanagon, MI on the wonderfully calm waters of Lake Superior. We arrived in Ontanagon at 1715 and we took on fuel and decided to make our way to Stockton Island in the Apostle Islands. We arrived at the dock at Stockton at 2100 and made dinner. We spent a very cold night at the dock since there is no electricity on the island. We were all awake early and pushed away from the dock at Stockton at 0640 on our final leg home. We arrived home just as the seas were building. The lake was really churning with strong easterly winds this afternoon so we were really glad to make it home early.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Thanks.

Update - Not so Promising

Well, it is 1515 and we are still at the marina. The weather is not so promising for tomorrow also. It looks as if we will at the earliest be leaving here on Friday morning. The run from here to Duluth is 384 miles. This could be done in 3 long days with good weather. However, 4 is probably more realistic. I'll update the blog when internet access is available.

We are getting closer....

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog.

Late on Monday the weather broke and we took off for Presque Isle, MI. We arrived at the Marina in Presque Isle at 2300. A very interesting arrival into a dark marina. Tuesday we fueled up and headed across the lake to Point Detour and then to Sault Sainte Marie. It was very windy in the St. Marys river, but a good time trip when all was said and done.

We are at the Kemp Marina in Sault Sainte Marie. It looks as if we will be here a few days as Lake Superior is kicking up with strong northwesterly winds. I am using the marina's computer so I'll get some pics updated as soon as I can get a connection with my laptop.

Have a great day.

The Gales of May - continued

Well another day at Harbor Beach Marina in Harbor Beach, Michigan. The wind is still blowing hard out of the west and northwest. As you can see some of the crew is working hard namely Keith the blog master and Bob the photographer. The rest of the crew is kicking back and relaxing. We hope for the winds to die down later today so that we can head on out yet today and run into the evening and night. Have a great day.

The Gales of May

Here is a picture that Bob took off of the breakwater at the marina at Harbor Beach. As you can see we are still waiting out the winds. The second picture shows what one does to pass the time as we wait out the Gales of May.....

A Rough Sunday

I hope the weather is better where you are than it is here. We were up early, fueled up and headed out to a very rough Lake Huron. After pounding our way for over an hour and only making it 4 miles we turned around and headed back to the Harbor Beach Marina. It is windy with temperatures in the 40's and then to top it off it is raining. We will be here until the weather breaks which could be tomorrow. I'll keep you posted with weather updates.

Well, we made it to Harbor Beach, Michigan a small friendly marina. Bob made us a wonderful dinner and the captain is finally relaxing. Thank God for that!!!! Will post more pictures tomorrow. The trip has been great and all need to consider a trip like this.

Later...

Ah yes.....

What boat trip does not need a little help from the Chief Engineer! All is fine and we made it to Detroit on Friday. Weather may be marginal tomorrow so we are hoping to make it to Port Huron at the tip of Lake Huron or farther. Will post more tomorrow assuming we have internet access. Have a great Saturday! I know we will!

Less than 24 hours...

Well we will be in Sandusky in less than 24 hours. There is alot of work to be done to get the boated fitted out. It looks like Bob and Keith will make a trip to the market to load up on the rations for the trip. It is probably a safe bet that we will need to stop at the liquor store to aquire some of the essentials also. Terry and Howard will stay at the boat and get it ready for our more than "three hour tour." We shipped all the large and heavy supplies via truck a few weeks ago. It takes alot of items to get a boat properly fitted out. Items such as PFD's, lines, anchors, radios, a dinghy, and many other items. Have a great evening and I'll have a post early tomorrow morning.
